In the Beginning...

Crossbow netball club was formed by a group of ladies from Frampton Cotterell over 30 years ago. The sum of £10 was borrowed from Crossbow community association for equipment and the club played originally at a local school. Subscriptions at that time were one shilling a week and court fees for the first year were five pounds. Crossbow joined the Bristol Netball League in the 1971/2 season in division 6 and lost only 3 games in that first season.

Since then they have won their fair share of honours including the premiere division title three times, the last win giving the club promotion to the then named ‘northern star league’ for the first time.

These days the club is one of the biggest in Avon with five senior teams and a growing youth section. The club still draws most of its members from the original area and several players are relatives of founder members. The aims of the club as stated in its constitution include ‘to plan and help the growth of netball’ and ‘to promote and encourage the game’. As such the club strives to offer netball to all abilities in the north Bristol area.
